Communication Skills Training
Course description The course provides an opportunity for delegates to learn about their present levels of skill in a variety of situations and to practice effective techniques to improve them. The course is participatory and experiential. Delegates will be expected to work in pairs and in small groups in order to maintain confidentiality and maximise learning practice. The course takes place over a single day and all delegates will be supplied with attendance certificates. - Introduction & welcome to course (impressions & conceptions; instruction-giving; examination & practice of skills)
- Interview appraisal (manager & employee; identification of requirements for effective 1:1 communication)
- “Problem” people & areas of difficulty (assertive statements and aggressive behaviour)
- Listening skills (concepts and practice)
- Emotional signals & responses (practice & observation)
- Non-verbal communication (observations & exercises)
- Verbal communication & responses (observations & exercises)
- Questioning skills
- Learned skills (practice & analysis)
What skills will candidates acquire? The course is designed to enable all levels of staff to represent themselves more effectively in situations where clear instruction-giving and inter-personal skills are of paramount importance.
